It takes the name of “NaturalPower” and it is the first tractor in the world designed to operate with 100% crude rape seed oil. Developed by DEUTZ-FAHR in cooperation with DEUTZ AG, this special Agrotron version, type-approved in compliance with standard DIN V 51605, underlines SAME DEUTZ-FAHR’s ever stronger commitment to promoting the use of renewable energy sources, a significant contribution in reducing harmful emissions, and actively safeguarding the climate and the environment.
Agrotron NaturalPower is based on the M Agrotron series (131-184 HP), and is equipped with the DEUTZ Fuel Management® patented system, consisting of a fuel controller incorporated into the engine management and a two-tank fuel system that ensures reliable operation.
Naturally, even when running on crude rape seed oil, these engines comply with TIER III emission limits.
Back in 2001 Deutz-Fahr successfully participated in a project for 100 tractors sponsored by the German government, during which it acquired experience in the use of alternative and effective fuels. Combined with the farmers’ growing interest in alternative fuels, this experience formed the basis for using vegetable oil fuels in a more committed and extensive fashion. The fact that bio-fuel production has increased considerably in recent years further emphasizes the importance of this project, whose main goal is to allow farmers to produce their own fuels directly.
Agrotron NaturalPower’s key feature is the use of two specific fuel tanks: a larger main tank, used for vegetable oil, and a secondary smaller one used for diesel fuel. Given the different viscosities and physical characteristics of the two fuels, engines cannot run exclusively on vegetable oil. For cold-starting, short journeys and extended idling periods, conventional diesel fuel is used instead of vegetable oil. Since the use of vegetable oil also has an impact on engine performance, the fuel injection system had to be redesigned for the new fuel and its characteristics, as well. The result is an extremely reliable tractor that can be used in all kinds of operating and load conditions.
In addition to the economic benefits resulting from the use of vegetable oil, the SAME DEUTZ-FAHR system also offers clear technical advantages. On the one hand, the security of the manufacturer’s 24-month (or 2000 working hours) warranty and the assistance and service provided by the dealers; on the other, the farmers’ and contractors’ positive knowledge that they are actively contributing to safeguarding the climate and the environment.
DEUTZ-FAHR is the only manufacturer in the world to offer, in addition to the approval for the use of biodiesel, (B100), tractors that can also run on pure rape seed oil.
